Eight Coiled Baskets in Zigzag and Diamond Design
Eight coiled baskets by Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) and St'at'imc (Lillooet) weavers, reproduced as Plate 24 of the Bureau of American Ethnology coiled basketry monograph. Recorded design readings include trees, chevrons interpreted as flying birds, snake track and caterpillar, showing how weavers read the land into geometry. Published in Coiled Basketry in British Columbia and Surrounding Region by H. K. Haeberlin, James Teit and Helen H. Roberts, edited by Franz Boas, in the Forty-first Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology (Washington, 1928).
