Four St'atimc and Nlaka'pamux Coiled Baskets
Four coiled baskets from Harrison Lake, Lillooet and Thompson weavers, reproduced as Plate 21 of the Bureau of American Ethnology coiled basketry monograph. The recorded design names include Flying bird, Necklace, Indian rice, Snake, Fly, lakes with ducks and snares with animals, names the weavers themselves gave to James Teit. These St'at'imc and Nlaka'pamux baskets belong to the same Interior Salish tradition practised by Secwepemc weavers. Published in Coiled Basketry in British Columbia and Surrounding Region by H. K. Haeberlin, James Teit and Helen H. Roberts, edited by Franz Boas, in the Forty-first Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology (Washington, 1928).
