A Fishing Stage and Salmon Racks at Spences Bridge
A Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) fisherman stands on a fishing stage built out over the river at Spences Bridge in 1889, with rows of salmon drying on pole racks behind him, photographed by George M. Dawson. Dip net stages and wind dried salmon were engineering and food technology at the heart of Interior Salish life on the Thompson and Fraser rivers. The Nlaka'pamux are the Secwepemc's neighbours and relatives within the Interior Salish family.
